Which cars are the safest ones to drive? Is the old car starting to "nickel and dime" you to death? Are you considering buying a new one? If so, you may find the following information from the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) helpful. Each year, HLDI compares cars based on insurance claims for actual injuries and vehicle crash damage. The cars listed below represent the best and the worst in the overall injury category. Remember that a score of 100 represents the average for all cars; under 100 is better than average and over 100 is worse than average. (The results are for 2003-2005 models.) The brochure "Injury, Collision and Theft Losses" provides a listing of HLDIs results. You can link directly to HLDI for a copy, or contact your independent insurance agent for more information.
